Why do I need to create an account?
Without an account, you would not be able to store and manage your templates, or stock up on points to buy templates. Your account also gives you access to forums, blogs and other updates, and gives us a way to send you promotions, coupons and ways to get in touch with other community members. It’s fast, free, and we do not share your information with third parties.
Will my account information be shared?
No, we do not share your account information with third parties, and you will be given the choice to opt-in or out of our e-newsletter and other forms of communication.
Can I use my points to buy anything besides templates?
No. Points are exclusively for templates, and the only way to buy templates is with points. We find this system works well because you can choose to buy a point at a time, or to stock up on a bundle of points for fast, easy template downloads anytime you need them.
Do points ever expire?
No, points can be held in your account for as long as you want and we will honor them.
I am using an early version of InDesign. Will the templates be compatible with it?
FOLDRite™ Template Master saves to InDesign CS2 or CS3 format, however, foldfactory.com saves to CS3 or InDesign Interchange format. The Interchange format should allow you to save a file that can be opened in CS.
I’m a QuarkXPress user. Are the templates available as Quark files?
Currently, the QuarkXPress file format is not supported by Template Master or foldfactory.com.
What if I have a technical problem with a template?
If you encounter a technical problem, simply log in to foldfactory.com and click on the Helpdesk link. There you will be able to open and submit a request for technical support. You will receive a prompt response.
How long will my template be available for download?
Once you click the “Build” button and agree to be charged a point, you will have 24 hours to download your template. The template can be downloaded as many times as you want during that period, but once 24 hours have passed, you will be charged another point to download it.
Can I share my points or transfer them to someone else’s account?
You can share your points by giving someone your username and password, allowing them to log in and download templates using your points. If you want to transfer your points to someone else, you must submit a request to the helpdesk and they can manually transfer points to a different account.
Can more than one person use my password?
Only one person can be logged in to your account at one time, but if you choose to share your password and account access with someone else, that is technically acceptable. However, the way foldfactory is set up, there is no compelling reason not to have your own individual account—it’s quick, easy and free, and you can manage your templates, participate in forums and blogs and manage points to buy templates.
What is the difference between foldfactory.com and FOLDRite™ Template Master?
Folfactory.com and FOLDRite™ Template Master both offer custom digital template creation for 85 FOLDRite™ folding styles. Foldfactory offers online single template downloads purchased through a point system, and Template Master is a software plug-in for InDesign that offers seamless integration and optimum speed and ease of use. Template Master has a few extra features, such as the ability to choose to build templates to standard envelope enclosure sizes and standard cut sheet sizes, and also an “update template” function that allows you to modify a FOLDRite™ template, or to turn an existing InDesign file into a FOLDRite™ template.
I installed the Template Master software—why can’t I build my templates?
Have you entered a valid license key? If not, you are running in demo mode, which only enables you to build the first fold (B-1). In demo mode, you can go through the motions with any of the folds, but you cannot build any of them. Please refer to the e-mail you received when you purchased the software and you will find the license key and instructions for installing. If you are still having trouble, log in to foldfactory.com and click on the helpdesk link to send a request for assistance.
When I open my template in InDesign, it keeps telling me the font is missing. How can I fix this?
If you are using Template Master, launch InDesign, choose File > FOLDRite™ Template Master, click the Preferences tab and change the font. If you are using foldfactory.com, choose Type > Find Font, select the font in question and replace it with a font that is currently installed on your system.
Why can’t I get the Update Template button to work in Template Master?
The Update template button is an exciting feature that allows a user to modify an existing Template Master template (for example, change the size or folding style), or to turn an existing InDesign file that was not created in Template Master into a FOLDRite™ template—all without moving the artwork currently on the page!
The button is grayed-out until an InDesign document is open. The document can be a FOLDRite™ Template generated by the plug-in, or an existing InDesign file that was not created using Template Master. The Update Template button will only be enabled if the front-most document in InDesign is capable of being turned into a template. Any document that is 2 or fewer pages in size can be updated. If the front-most open InDesign document has more than 2 pages, it cannot be updated. Simply open an InDesign file, launch Template Master if it is not already open by choosing File > FOLDRite™ Template Master, choose the modification (change folding style, size, etc.) and click “Update Template.”
