Welcome to foldfactory! My name is Trish Witkowski and I’m a graphic designer with a master’s degree in printing and a passion for folding.
Why folding? It all started early on in my career working as a designer and trying to create brochures. I never could get a straight answer from anyone regarding
how to set up my files correctly, or even what my choices were for folding styles. I kept searching for information about folding and I kept coming up empty.
I also got sick of hearing that designers are hopeless when it comes to file prep. After all, how can we send good files if nobody can tell us how to do it?
My frustration (and curiosity) turned into a 7-year research project, working with some of the most respected binderies and printers in
the U.S. and Canada to document all of the brochure folds I could find. The result was an 850-page book about folding, and a big fat printing industry award for
creating the FOLDRite system—a system that standardizes file creation for folded materials.
It’s been several years since I did my research, but the journey hasn’t ended for me—actually, I feel like I’m
just getting started. I have a huge collection of folding samples, which I plan to share with all of you, and I’ve also built some pretty cool software tools
that should put you on the path to folding enlightenment. Enjoy!

About Trish Witkowski Trish is an award-winning designer with extensive experience in marketing and collateral design, POP, packaging and direct mail.
She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design and a master of science degree in Graphic Arts Publishing from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School
of Printing Management and Sciences (now the School of Print Media). She held the position of creative director for a Baltimore-based agency for six years, and has
taught design and desktop publishing at the college level. Trish has a specialized expertise in the area of folding and finishing and is the creator of the FOLDRite™
brochure folding system. Current publications include: A Field Guide to Folding, Folding for the Graphic Arts: A Teacher’s Handbook, and FOLD: The Professional’s
Guide to Folding.
